Mule-Title.jpg

Mule Palm thrives in conditions from full sun to light shade and will tolerate drought conditions in humid climates provided a full drought does not persist for more than 3-4 weeks. The palms exhibit aspects of their hybridization; the trunk calipers tend toward being heavy but some specimens will be thinner and the canopies are commonly 16-18' across however, they will not necessarily exhibit identical growth habits from one palm to the next. Mule palms are well suited for use in a wide range of soil types from sandy or sandy loams to fairly dense clay type soils. Reasonably good drainage in the upper 18-24" of the soil layer is important but provided that the upper soil layer drains reasonably well, standing water below that level will not damage the palms.
